Gene Chizik ready for spring football practice
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Auburn coach Gene Chizik expects to start
practice after spring break.
Chizik said Monday the Tigers are tentatively set to start March
24 and will hold practices in the mornings as much as possible.
The entire coaching staff returns after receiving raises. Chizik
says that continuity is important for the program and the players.
He said other schools showed interest in hiring some of his
staff either as assistants or a head coach.
Chizik will have high-profile position battles at quarterback
and tailback.
He said junior college transfer Cameron Newton won’t have any
different expectations than the other quarterback candidates. He
says Newton seems “very focused on what he wants to accomplish.“
At tailback, there are a number of contenders to replace Ben
Tate.
