With one of college football’s biggest rivalries on the horizon, the University of Alabama reminds those heading to Tuscaloosa on Sunday to plan for game day traffic.

UA University Relations urges fans coming from Birmingham and points east or South of Birmingham to avoid I-459 and take I-20/59 through downtown instead. Normally, there are back-ups at the I-459 and I-20/59 interchange in Bessemer.

Fans may also run into traffic on I-20/59 South one mile prior to Exit 79, where the interstate merges from three lanes to two. Drivers can avoid this by taking the Highway 216 route (Exit 100) or the Highway 11 route (Exit 89).
