Clint Moseley leads Auburn in practice as starting QB
The No. 19/23 Auburn football team practiced for just under two hours Tuesday night as the Tigers began preparations for Saturday’s game against No. 1/2 LSU in Baton Rouge.
Practicing in full pads, the Tigers worked on positional and team drills Tuesday night. Offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn said fundamentals were stressed during the practice and that he was pleased with the Tigers’ focus.
“We had a good, solid day of practice,” Malzahn said. “It was physical at times. We really tried to focus on the fundamentals. We wanted to work on the little things and fix some of the things that went wrong on Saturday (against Florida).”
Auburn will face an LSU team that is second in the Southeastern Conference allowing 11.7 points per game and second in total defense, allowing just 251.9 yards per game. LSU is giving up 75.1 rushing yards per game, also second-best in the SEC.
“LSU (defense) is very quick,” Malzahn noted. “They have speed, but they have quickness. Some defenses have one or the other, but they have both. Their coordinator (John Chavis) is one of the best in the country. They make you earn it.”
Auburn (5-2, 3-1 SEC) and LSU (7-0, 4-0 SEC) kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT at Tiger Stadium. The game will be televised by CBS.
The game will be the 45th meeting between Auburn and LSU, with LSU holding a 23-20-1 edge. LSU also holds a 14-5-1 edge in the series in Baton Rouge.
The series has been close in recent years with six of the last seven games, and 13 of the last 21, decided by seven points or less.
