AUBURN - The No. 24 Auburn football team returned to the practice fields Wednesday night as it continued to work toward Saturday’s game against Florida (4-2, 2-2 SEC).
The Tigers (4-2, 2-1 SEC) practiced for just under two hours in shorts and shells. Auburn focused on positional drills, mixing in some special teams work and situational plays against the scout teams.
The Tigers will play at home for the first time this month after back-to-back games at South Carolina and Arkansas. With the two heaviest practice days of the week in the books, Auburn head coach Gene Chizik is pleased with the effort his squad has put in.
“I think we have had a really good week of practice so far,” said Chizik. “We have tomorrow and some time left and we need every minute we can get. But, I’m really pleased with how we practiced.”
While Florida comes into Saturday’s game with a 4-2 record, the two losses have come against No. 3 Alabama and No. 1 LSU. With such a battle-tested team coming in, Chizik said Auburn will have to play its best game of the season.
“As I’ve said before, we are going to have to play probably our best game of the year to be able to win this game,” said Chizik. “We are excited about it. I think our players are up, and there’s a lot of high energy. It’s been a good week so far.”
Auburn and Florida will kick off at 6 p.m. CT Saturday. The game will be televised by ESPN.
