Auburn seeks ideas on tree-rolling tradition
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Auburn University is asking fans for suggestions on how to preserve the tradition of rolling Toomer’s Corner after a big victory.
No one knows whether the oak trees at Toomer’s Corner will survive being poisoned, but the university says it wants to keep alive the tradition or fans covering the area with toilet paper during celebrations. So it’s seeking ideas from Auburn supporters on what to do next.
Officials say a committee already is looking at several options, including replanting the trees or building some sort of structure at Toomer’s Corner that could be rolled. The panel also is considering the possibility of designing an artificial tree or sculpture to replace the trees at their current location.
The university wants suggestions through an email address available at its website.
