AUBURN - The No. 20 Auburn football team returned to the practice fields Wednesday night as it continued to work toward Saturday’s matchup at No. 15 Georgia (7-2, 5-1 SEC).

The Tigers (6-3, 4-2 SEC) practiced for just over two hours in shorts and shells. Auburn focused on positional drills, mixing in some special teams work and situational plays against the scout teams.

The Georgia game, the “Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry” is the first of a three-game stretch for Auburn to close out the regular season. With a big rivalry game coming up, Auburn head coach Gene Chizik was pleased with the way his team came out to practice.

“It’s winding down our second week and we had a really good week of practice so far,” said Chizik. “It’s going to be a fun game and we got another day of preparation that we will definitely need, but they’ve really been focused and its going real good.”

The game is the 115th meeting overall between the Tigers and Bulldogs. Auburn leads the all-time series 54-52-8 and has a 14-10-2 series lead when playing in Athens, Ga.

With two more days of practice left on the schedule, Chizik said he likes the way his team is progressing.

“We still have a few things we need to clean up,” said Chizik. “Other than that, I feel good about where we are at.”

Auburn and Georgia will kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT Saturday at Sanford Stadium. The game will be televised by CBS.
