AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Auburn has hired Rich Bisaccia as special teams and running backs coach.

Coach Gus Malzahn announced the hiring Thursday.  Bisaccia spent the last 11 seasons coaching in the NFL, working in San Diego the past two seasons after nine years at Tampa Bay.

Bisaccia, who will be assistant head coach, spent the first 19 years of his career in the college ranks at Mississippi, Clemson, South Carolina and Wayne State.

He coached special teams for the Buccaneers, who won the Super Bowl in his first season. He also coached running backs and worked with former Auburn star Carnell Williams.

Bisaccia says he met Malzahn in the spring of 2010 and has “followed his cutting edge offense and what he’s accomplished ... since he started coaching in college. “
