Auburn holds first Iron Bowl practice
AUBURN — The No. 24 Auburn football team returned to the practice fields after taking Sunday off as the Tiger began preparations for Saturday’s game against No. 2 Alabama.
The Tigers split time between the indoor facility and the outdoor practice fields Monday, practicing for one hour.
Auburn defensive coordinator Ted Roof said the Tigers were focused during Monday’s practice.
“It was good to get back on the practice field today,” Roof said. “I thought our kids had a good practice. There was a sense of urgency and an attention to detail.”
The Crimson Tide comes into the game leading the Southeastern Conference in rushing, averaging 220.5 yards per game.
“They have a great attack and it’s up to us to find a way to slow them down,” Roof said. “They are a very balanced football team. They can run the ball. They make big plays in the passing game. They are talented team.”
The game will be the 64th consecutive meeting between the Tigers and Crimson Tide and the 76th meeting overall. Auburn has won seven of the last 10 meetings and 11 of the last 20 against Alabama.
Additionally, Auburn hosts ESPN College Football GameDay for the Iron Bowl. It is the seventh time GameDay has visited Auburn and the second time for the Iron Bowl. Overall, it is GameDay’s fourth on-site visit to the Iron Bowl.
Auburn (7-4, 4-3 SEC) and Alabama (10-1, 6-1 SEC) kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The game will air on CBS.
