Auburn football continues to prep for Ole Miss

AUBURN - The No. Auburn football team returned to the practice fields Wednesday night as it continued to work toward Saturday’s home game against Ole Miss (2-5, 0-4 SEC).

The Tigers (5-3, 3-2 SEC) practiced for just over two hours in shorts and shells. Auburn focused on positional drills, mixing in some special teams work and situational plays against the scout teams.

Ole Miss is Auburn’s fifth opponent in the brutal month of October, a month that included three road games against ranked teams. Auburn head coach Gene Chizik said he was pleased with the way his team has come out and practiced following last weekend’s loss at No. 1 LSU.

“I thought we had a good practice,” said Chizik. “I really feel like our guys have responded really well this week and like any of the other weeks where we’ve come back after tough losses, they have been very focused and very willing to get better.”

The Ole Miss game is the first in a stretch that includes three Auburn home games out of the next four. Despite the Rebels’ winless record, Chizik knows the Tigers will have to show up on their home field against divisional-rival Ole Miss.

“I think we’ve had a very good week of practice and obviously we have a bit more time to prepare, which we’ll need every minute of,” said Chizik. “Overall, I think it has been a really good week and it’s going to be a great challenge for us and I feel like our team is going to be ready to play.”

Auburn and Ole Miss will kick off at 6 p.m. CT Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The game will be televised by ESPNU.
